What is an IEC power cable?

An IEC power cable is a standard power cord with an IEC C13 connector on one end, designed to plug into the "kettle plug" inlet on the back of mixers, powered speakers, amplifiers, LED lighting, and rack gear. In Australia, the other end is a 3-pin AS/NZS plug that fits any standard wall outlet.

What is a piggyback plug and why would I use one?

A piggyback plug has a second socket built into the back of the AU plug. It lets you power two devices from a single wall outlet without a double adaptor or a power board. AV techs use piggyback leads to save setup time and reduce cable clutter at the wall.

What length should I choose?

Use 1.5m to 2m for rack-mounted gear and desk setups, 3m to 5m for standard stage and FOH, 7m to 10m for long stage-to-wall runs and lighting rigs, and 15m for the largest stages or outdoor events. Always allow a bit of extra length for routing around obstacles.

Will this work with my mixer, amp, or powered speaker?

Yes. The IEC C13 end fits any standard kettle-plug inlet, which covers the vast majority of professional audio, lighting, and AV gear, including mixers, powered speakers, amplifiers, LED fixtures, and rack equipment.

What's the maximum load I can run through this cable?

10 amps at 240V, which is 2.4kW continuous load. That's enough for most single pieces of AV gear. Most studio monitors draw between 50W and 300W, and audio interfaces far less. This cable handles them comfortably with significant headroom. If you're running multiple high-draw devices off the piggyback outlet, add their combined wattage and make sure the total stays under 2.4kW.
